Our Leadership Study!!!!!

Defining success is a difficult task. Most people equate it with wealth, power, and happiness. However, true success is not a thing you acquire or achieve. Rather, it is a journey you take your whole life long.
In a refreshingly straightforward style, John Maxwell shares unique insights into what it means to be successful. And he reveals a definition that puts genuine success within your reach yet motivates you to keep striving for your dreams.

SIGNS OF PRIDE

1. Insecurity. Research reveals clergy as one of the most insecure of all professional groups. Insecurity is the root of many unhealthy and ungodly behaviors. It provokes us to want the lavish praise and attention of others too much. Much of pride is motivated out of one’s unmet need for self-worth. Finding one’s identity and security in Christ is a must to avoid pride.

2. The need to be right. Ever encounter someone who has a hard time being wrong? This is a symptom of pride. The need to be right prevents one from appropriately evaluating issues as well as themselves (Galatians 6:3). A person who needs to be right has an exalted investment in himself or herself and thinks that he/she knows better than others. In religious circles, the need to be right is frequently manifested through always saying ‘God told me’ or ‘God showed me’.

3. Being argumentative. Individuals, who argue their point of view, especially to those in authority over them, are allowing pride to get the best of them. At the root of their argument is a belief that they are right and the other is wrong and that their will should prevail. It is appropriate to advocate for a point of view or position but not to do so in such a manner that you are more invested in your opinion than in arriving at a mutual understanding.

4. More invested in being heard than in hearing. When someone develops a pattern of needing others to listen to them rather than first hearing others, pride is motivating the need. The need to be heard is common among clergy who are insecure. Oftentimes, the individual does not feel loved or valued unless people "hear them out." In truth, this is often just an expression of insecurity and pride.

5. Anger. Anger is a self-justifying emotion. This means that the nature of anger is to prompt us to justify our position and blame another for the wrongdoing. Justification of self leads to denial of our own complicity or wrongdoing. The scripture warns that the "anger of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God." (James 1:20). An individual who is angry a lot is suffering from pride.

6. Irritability and impatience. Even though I am a counselor, it was only recently that I learned that the root of impatience in my life is anger and therefore pride. When we are unable to be patient with another and are irritated, it demonstrates a haughty view of self. We feel that our views, time or needs are more important than the other persons. This again is more an indication of our pride than someone else’s slow movement or imperfection.

7. Lack of submissive attitude. Submission is the voluntary placement of oneself under the influence, control or authority of another. When an individual pledges their submission to you or another, yet is critical or argumentative of that authority, then pride is the hidden issue. The test of humility and submission is being able to say ‘yes’, maintain a positive attitude and trust God, especially when the decision of your authority goes against your grain or better judgment.

8. Not easily corrected. Ever work or live with someone who won’t receive any negative or corrective feedback? This too is pride. Before he died, a pastor in the East Valley was noted for being easily entreated and able to receive corrective feedback from others. He would thank the person for the negative feedback and commit to pray about it, seek counsel and get back to the person with what conclusions he came to. He was a role model for many of us.

9. Receiving correction but not changing. I worked with a man who often would receive my correction and say thank you for the feedback, but would never change. This too is a form of pride. The individual was placating me and people-pleasing me, telling me what I wanted to hear but not really taking the feedback to heart. His insecurity and fear prevented him from truly changing.

10. Needing others to take your advice. Counselors, such as myself, easily fall into the trap of having to have others take their advice. Advice should always be offered without strings attached. If you find yourself resenting the fact that your advice is not followed, look deeper at the motivating issues in your life.

11. Needing to proclaim your title or degrees. A good friend of mine requires everyone to call him ‘pastor’, saying that he has deservedly earned the title. Demanding that others call you ‘doctor’ or ‘pastor’ or ‘bishop’ is usually a way of making you ‘one up’ and them ‘one down’. Once again, pride is fueling the requirement.

12. Being stubborn. Webster’s dictionary defines stubbornness as "unduly determined to exert one’s own will, not easily persuaded and difficult to handle or work, resistant." The root issue of stubbornness is willfulness, which is ‘I want what I want when I want it’. Another name for pride.

13. Comparisons and competition. 2 Corinthians 10:12 makes it clear that comparing oneself with others is unwise. Comparison is a form of competition. It is often overt. For example, emphasizing the size of one’s church, the number of converts, etc. However, it can also be the subtle sin of heart that inwardly grieves when another is more successful or rejoices when another pastor’s ministry enters hard times. The motive of heart is pride.

How Much Free Will Do You Really Have in Life?

There is an overwhelming amount of self-help books on the market; hundreds of success seminars exist and still, every year, our society continues to experience more and more problems. This is certainly the case when you look at recent statistics on divorce, health and money related issues, the last one topping the list.If you have free will why would you decide to lose your job, undergo a bankruptcy, have an accident or create any other negative circumstances? There must be something here that is missing . . .Some people claim that they control everything in their lives by free will. There are others that believe that free will does not exist, as everything is predetermined by God or some form of higher power. What Do You Believe? If you observe how people govern — or fail to govern — their lives, it turns out that we all register on various points along the scale, starting with free will and self-determination on one end and ranging to no free will and ruled by God or some other higher power on the other end.Everybody claims to know his or her own place on the free will continuum. This is really interesting as it demonstrates somehow that either most of us simply don't know how much free will we exercise, or that there is simply no basic rule applicable.Exercising free will means that your decision is not based on any circumstances or influences from the past or future. Nor is your free will based on moral issues — and absolutely not on personal preferences. When you closely examine your decisions you will soon see that they are indeed based mostly on existing facts and personal preferences. So how much free will do you really exercise? What if you follow your intuition or go with your gut feeling? Are these based on free will? Where does intuition come from? Where does your gut feeling come from? You can see that the limits of free blur rather quickly when compared to most non-rational processes.Your level of free will is determined by the state of your consciousness. When you base a decision on intuition, you are really exercising free will because you are giving a certain higher level or your consciousness the power to rule. Intuition is free from any indoctrination brought about by pat forms of beliefs and concepts. That's why success in life has a lot to do with your spiritual path. True success is far beyond what most of society focuses on. Don't let yourself be pushed into a box by shortsighted claims that money and beauty are all there are to success. Success in your life is not dependent on how much money you have, where you live or if you are in a relationship.Success is not feeling happy; it is feeling happy about who you are. Creating Goals Beyond YourselfMost people start out creating their goals on a physical level — that's fine, we all do. However, to get further into the power of manifesting you want to learn what is beyond what you call 'That's Me'.‘That's Me’ is just an assortment of beliefs and experiences that you have collected over time. Compared to who you truly are, it is merely the tip of the iceberg. To expand your level of control you need to step aside of your usual cause-and-effect thinking. Pay more attention to coincidences. Allow yourself to make spontaneous decisions. Connect and listen to your heart and follow its guidance when it comes to life decisions. Simplify how you live and reduce stress as much as possible. Stress is the biggest challenge in allowing your being to reach a higher potential of awareness. Manifesting with Higher PurposeWhen setting up your intentions and dreams, try to get to the point of what you really want, and not what you think you need. Think about what would be the highest purpose you could fulfill in your lifetime. Imagine — beyond anything that you may think is possible! When you start doing this, magic happens in your life!

Count Your Blessings

A Blessing of Grace
Today, may you go in the grace and peace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. May the grace he has given you be the grace that you share with others.

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing.”
—Galatians 2:20-21, NIV

Question: "What are the four spiritual laws?"

Answer: The Four Spiritual Laws are a way of sharing the good news of the salvation that is available through faith in Jesus Christ. It is a simple way of organizing the important information in the Gospel into four points.

The first of the Four Spiritual Laws is, "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life." John 3:16 tells us, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 10:10 gives us the reason that Jesus came, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." What is blocking us from God's love? What is preventing us from having an abundant life?

The second of the Four Spiritual Laws is, "Humanity is tainted by sin and is therefore separated from God. As a result, we cannot know God's wonderful plan for our lives." Romans 3:23 affirms this information, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 6:23 gives us the consequences of sin, "the wages of sin is death." God created us to have fellowship with Him. However, humanity brought sin into the world, and is therefore separated from God. We have ruined the relationship with Him that God intended us to have. What is the solution?

The third of the Four Spiritual Laws is, "Jesus Christ is God's only provision for our sin. Through Jesus Christ, we can have our sins forgiven and restore a right relationship with God." Romans 5:8 tells us, "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 informs us of what we need to know and believe in order to be saved, "...that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures..." Jesus Himself declares that He is the only way of salvation in John 14:6, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." How can I receive this wonderful gift of salvation?

The Fourth of the Four Spiritual Laws is, "We must place our faith in Jesus Christ as Savior in order to receive the gift of salvation and know God's wonderful plan for our lives." John 1:12 describes this for us, "Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God." Acts 16:31 says it very clearly, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved!" We can be saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).
If you want to trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, say the following words to God. Saying these words will not save you, but trusting in Christ will! This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. "God, I know that I have sinned against you and deserve punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!"

Something to check out!!

Daily Rules from God for 2009

1. Wake Up!! Decide to have a good day. 'Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. 'Psalms 118:24

2. Dress Up!!The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. 'The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance; but the Lord looks at the heart.' I Samuel 16:7

3. Shut Up!! Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. 'He who guards his lips guards his soul.' Proverbs 13:3

4. Stand Up!!... For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything... 'Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good...'Galatians 6:9-10

5. Look Up!!.... To the Lord. 'I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me. 'Philippians 4:13

6. Reach Up!!... For something higher. 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, And He will direct your path.' Proverbs 3:5-6

7. Lift Up!!... Your Prayers. 'Do not worry about anything; instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING.'Phillippians 4:6

Remember: God answers Knee-Mail.

They need your help! They need your support! They need your Love!

The Kenya Family Foundation

Our hearts were touched as we learned of a family from Kenya that needed our help and support. As of today only part of the family has been able to come to the USA. They have seven children. One was born here in the USA two years ago. Their other 6 children ranging from the ages of 12-23 are still in Kenya, four are awaiting for their parents to receive their green cards as this will allow them to be able to join them in the USA. However, the oldest two of the seven are not as fortunate. They must be enrolled
in school in order for them to be able to come over to the USA. To be enrolled in school they will need $2000.00 per child. The school in Kenya is willing to allow us to send $1000.00 per child to start school. That’s $2000.00 we need immediately. If the children are not in school by the time the green card is received they will not be able to come to the USA with the rest of the family. They will be left behind. This is a cry out to every church, every business, every individual to help in our efforts to make sure that all the children will be able to come to the USA to reunite with their parents. Please help us by coming out to Gates of Heaven C.O.G.I.C at 112 Beech Street Suffolk, VA 23434 on August 17 &18 2009 at 6:00 pm to bring your love offerings. We are asking each and every family to donate $100.00 to help these servants of God and their family. They will be present so that you can meet them ,& pray with them. This is a great assignment! Let us unite for this one cause and save a family. Will you join us? We can not do it alone, but with your help we can do all things through Christ! If you are unable to attend either night, we ask that you mail your gift to: Gates Of Heaven P.O. Box 3436 Suffolk, Virginia 23439. Please make all checks or money orders payable to Gates Of Heaven.

Prayer: Jump Start Your Prayer Life

Many Christians believe in prayer, but need a jump start. Here are seven ways you can jump start your prayer life in order to grow a more intimate relationship between you and God. Select a couple of them to implement in your life starting this week.

Set aside a time and place for daily prayer. This is the single most important thing you can do. When we establish a regular routine for prayer, we will make sure that our prayer life is not just 'on the run', or when our backs are up against the wall, or when our buildings are being brought down by terrorists.

Begin your prayer times by slowing down and quieting down. When we come to prayer agitated and stressed, it is especially difficult to hear God's voice and to sense God's presence. Spending a quiet minute or two focusing and breathing deeply can help quiet our minds and spirits and make two-way prayer more probable. Allow for some silence in your life. This silence doesn't have to be long. It can be as short as 30 or 60 seconds to begin with and then gradually extend it to longer times as you get more comfortable with silence and waiting and listening for God.

Have a prayer conversation with God. Simply begin a conversation with God, like you might with a good friend. It could go something like this:
Good Morning, Lord. It's Glen.

This is my situation.

This is how I am feeling.

This is how I need your help.

What should I do?

Silence.

I am concerned about these people....

Because....What should I do?Silence.

Lord, guide me in...

Thanks, Lord for listening.

I am counting on you.

Pray the Bible. Take a few moments to read something from the Bible and direct attention toward God. Use a Bible passage you are already familiar with to help you get started praying. Focus on the contents of the Scripture passage and allow it to steer your time spent in prayer. Slowly read a single verse or short passage two or three times. Pause for some silence in between each reading to allow God's word to sink deeply into your heart and mind. Record some of your favorite Bible verses in a notebook and pray with one or more of them when the need arises. All of Scripture does not speak equally to us. Pick out those verses that mean the most to you. Put yourself in the Biblical story and ask God what God might be saying to you about yourself, your life, your priorities, your relationships, your time, your money management -- you.

Write out your prayers. Name what is going on in your life. Sometimes simply by naming and articulating what we are thinking, feeling or experiencing - such as "I'm thinking about changing careers" or "I feel lonely" or "I feel hopeless about..." or "I am overwhelmed" can help us gain focus and reclaim a portion of the power our life experiences have drained from us. Writing it down , composing a short prayer and giving it to God can be an empowering ritual. Many people find keeping a prayer journal to be a helpful discipline.
Recall how God has helped you in the past. God told Israel over and over to "Remember how the Lord God brought you out of bondage in Egypt." It is as we remember the past saving acts of God that we gain greater trust in God's power and love. And so Jesus says "Eat the bread in memory of me." When we are caught up in our stress, pain or suffering, it is easy to forget how God has helped us in the past. The trials of life can cause us to lose perspective and weaken our sense of trust in God's caring presence. But as we remember how God has helped us in the past we can be filled with hope for today and tomorrow. "O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come."

Develop a Prayer Rolodex. Put together a rolodex with names of them. Use either 7 or 30 cards. On each card put together a short list of people and then take one card each day and pray for the people on the list. A short list allows you to go deeper into prayer for each person and yet keeps several people in your prayers every day. If you use seven cards, you have one for each day of the week. If you use 30, you have one for each day of the month.

Are these 7 ways the only ways to pray? Of course not! They are simply some tools you can use to jump start or beef up your prayer life. Pick a couple of them to implement in your life starting this week. How you pray isn't important. What is important is that each of us prays every day.

Daily Scripture Titus 1 & 2

Do you truly love Christ?
Do yo look forward to his return?
What good "deeds" can you do today to serve and love others?

Titus 1
1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness— 2a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, 3and at his appointed season he brought his word to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,
4To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
Titus' Task on Crete 5The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint[a] elders in every town, as I directed you. 6An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7Since an overseer[b] is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
10For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. 11They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12Even one of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." 13This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith 14and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of those who reject the truth. 15To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

Titus 2
What Must Be Taught to Various Groups 1You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. 2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
9Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
15These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

Daily Word!

1 Timothy 3 (New Century Version)

1 Timothy 3

Elders in the Church
1 What I say is true: Anyone wanting to become an overseer desires a good work. 2 An overseer must not give people a reason to criticize him, and he must have only one wife. He must be self-controlled, wise, respected by others, ready to welcome guests, and able to teach. 3 He must not drink too much wine or like to fight, but rather be gentle and peaceable, not loving money.4 He must be a good family leader, having children who cooperate with full respect.5 (If someone does not know how to lead the family, how can that person take care of God's church?)6 But an elder must not be a new believer, or he might be too proud of himself and be judged guilty just as the devil was.7 An elder must also have the respect of people who are not in the church so he will not be criticized by others and caught in the devil's trap.
Deacons in the Church
8 In the same way, deacons must be respected by others, not saying things they do not mean. They must not drink too much wine or try to get rich by cheating others.9 With a clear conscience they must follow the secret of the faith that God made known to us.10 Test them first. Then let them serve as deacons if you find nothing wrong in them.11 In the same way, womena]">[a] must be respected by others. They must not speak evil of others. They must be self-controlled and trustworthy in everything.12 Deacons must have only one wife and be good leaders of their children and their own families.13 Those who serve well as deacons are making an honorable place for themselves, and they will be very bold in their faith in Christ Jesus.
The Secret of Our Life
14 Although I hope I can come to you soon, I am writing these things to you now.15 Then, even if I am delayed, you will know how to live in the family of God. That family is the church of the living God, the support and foundation of the truth. 16 Without doubt, the secret of our life of worship is great:
Heb]">[b] was shown to us in a human body,
proved right in spirit,
and seen by angels.
He was proclaimed to the nations,
believed in by the world,
and taken up in glory.

Daily Scripture

Hebrews 10

1 The law is only an unclear picture of the good things coming in the future; it is not the real thing. The people under the law offer the same sacrifices every year, but these sacrifices can never make perfect those who come near to worship God.2 If the law could make them perfect, the sacrifices would have already stopped. The worshipers would be made clean, and they would no longer have a sense of sin.3 But these sacrifices remind them of their sins every year, 4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5 So when Christ came into the world, he said:
"You do not want sacrifices and offerings,
but you have prepared a body for me.
6 You do not ask for burnt offerings
and offerings to take away sins.
7 Then I said, 'Look, I have come.
It is written about me in the book.
God, I have come to do what you want.'" — Psalm 40:6–8
8 In this Scripture he first said, "You do not want sacrifices and offerings. You do not ask for burnt offerings and offerings to take away sins." (These are all sacrifices that the law commands.) 9 Then he said, "Look, I have come to do what you want." God ends the first system of sacrifices so he can set up the new system.10 And because of this, we are made holy through the sacrifice Christ made in his body once and for all time.

11 Every day the priests stand and do their religious service, often offering the same sacrifices. Those sacrifices can never take away sins.12 But after Christ offered one sacrifice for sins, forever, he sat down at the right side of God.13 And now Christ waits there for his enemies to be put under his power.14 With one sacrifice he made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

15 The Holy Spirit also tells us about this. First he says:
16 "This is the agreementa]">[a] I will make
with them at that time, says the Lord.
I will put my teachings in their hearts
and write them on their minds." — Jeremiah 31:33
17 Then he says:
"Their sins and the evil things they do—
I will not remember anymore." — Jeremiah 31:34
18 Now when these have been forgiven, there is no more need for a sacrifice for sins.

Continue to Trust God
19 So, brothers and sisters, we are completely free to enter the Most Holy Place without fear because of the blood of Jesus' death.20 We can enter through a new and living way that Jesus opened for us. It leads through the curtain—Christ's body.21 And since we have a great priest over God's house,22 let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, because we have been made free from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.23 Let us hold firmly to the hope that we have confessed, because we can trust God to do what he promised.

24 Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds.25 You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing, but you should meet together and encourage each other. Do this even more as you see the dayb]">[b] coming.

26 If we decide to go on sinning after we have learned the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins.27 There is nothing but fear in waiting for the judgment and the terrible fire that will destroy all those who live against God.28 Anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was found guilty from the proof given by two or three witnesses. He was put to death without mercy.29 So what do you think should be done to those who do not respect the Son of God, who look at the blood of the agreement that made them holy as no different from others' blood, who insult the Spirit of God's grace? Surely they should have a much worse punishment.30 We know that God said, "I will punish those who do wrong; I will repay them."c]">[c] And he also said, "The Lord will judge his people."d]">[d]31 It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32 Remember those days in the past when you first learned the truth. You had a hard struggle with many sufferings, but you continued strong.33 Sometimes you were hurt and attacked before crowds of people, and sometimes you shared with those who were being treated that way.34 You helped the prisoners. You even had joy when all that you owned was taken from you, because you knew you had something better and more lasting.

35 So do not lose the courage you had in the past, which has a great reward.36 You must hold on, so you can do what God wants and receive what he has promised.37 For in a very short time,
"The One who is coming will come
and will not be delayed.
38 Those who are right with me
will live by faith.
But if they turn back with fear,
I will not be pleased with them." — Habakkuk 2:3–4
39 But we are not those who turn back and are lost. We are people who have faith and are saved.

Peace

James 3:13-18 (New Century Version)

True Wisdom
13 Are there those among you who are truly wise and understanding? Then they should show it by living right and doing good things with a gentleness that comes from wisdom.14 But if you are selfish and have bitter jealousy in your hearts, do not brag. Your bragging is a lie that hides the truth.15 That kind of "wisdom" does not come from God but from the world. It is not spiritual; it is from the devil.16 Where jealousy and selfishness are, there will be confusion and every kind of evil.17 But the wisdom that comes from God is first of all pure, then peaceful, gentle, and easy to please. This wisdom is always ready to help those who are troubled and to do good for others. It is always fair and honest.18 People who work for peace in a peaceful way plant a good crop of right-living.

James 4

Give Yourselves to God
1 Do you know where your fights and arguments come from? They come from the selfish desires that war within you.2 You want things, but you do not have them. So you are ready to kill and are jealous of other people, but you still cannot get what you want. So you argue and fight. You do not get what you want, because you do not ask God.3 Or when you ask, you do not receive because the reason you ask is wrong. You want things so you can use them for your own pleasures.

Daily Word

Exodus 23 (New Century Version)

Exodus 23

Laws About Fairness
1 "You must not tell lies. If you are a witness in court, don't help a wicked person by telling lies.

2 "You must not do wrong just because everyone else is doing it. If you are a witness in court, you must not ruin a fair trial. You must not tell lies just because everyone else is.3 If a poor person is in court, you must not take his side just because he is poor.

4 "If you see your enemy's ox or donkey wandering away, you must return it to him.5 If you see that your enemy's donkey has fallen because its load is too heavy, do not leave it there. You must help your enemy get the donkey back on its feet.

6 "You must not be unfair to a poor person when he is in court.7 You must not lie when you accuse someone in court. Never allow an innocent or honest person to be put to death as punishment, because I will not treat guilty people as if they were innocent.

8 "You must not accept money from a person who wants you to lie in court, because such money will not let you see what is right. Such money makes good people tell lies.

9 "You must not mistreat a foreigner. You know how it feels to be a foreigner, because you were foreigners in Egypt.

Laws for the Sabbath
10 "For six years you are to plant and harvest crops on your land.11 Then during the seventh year, do not plow or plant your land. If any food grows there, allow the poor people to have it, and let the wild animals eat what is left. You should do the same with your vineyards and your orchards of olive trees.

12 "You should work six days a week, but on the seventh day you must rest. This lets your ox and your donkey rest, and it also lets the slave born in your house and the foreigner be refreshed.

13 "Be sure to do all that I have said to you. You must not even say the names of other gods; those names must not come out of your mouth.

Three Yearly Feasts
14 "Three times each year you must hold a feast to honor me.15 You must celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the way I commanded you. For seven days you must eat bread that is made without yeast at the set time during the month of Abib, the month when you came out of Egypt. No one is to come to worship me without bringing an offering.

16 "You must celebrate the Feast of Weeks. Offer to God the first things you harvest from the crops you planted in your fields.

"You must celebrate the Feast of Shelters in the fall, when you gather all the crops from your fields.

17 "So three times during every year all your males must come to worship the Lord God.

18 "You must not offer animal blood along with anything that has yeast in it.

"You must not save any of the fat from the sacrifice for the next day.

19 "You must bring the best of the firstfruits of your land to the Holy Tenta]">[a] of the Lord your God.

"You must not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.

God Will Help Israel
20 "I am sending an angel ahead of you, who will protect you as you travel. He will lead you to the place I have prepared.21 Pay attention to the angel and obey him. Do not turn against him; he will not forgive such turning against him because my power is in him.22 If you listen carefully to all he says and do everything that I tell you, I will be an enemy to your enemies. I will fight all who fight against you.23 My angel will go ahead of you and take you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will destroy them.

24 "You must not bow down to their gods or worship them. You must not live the way those people live. You must destroy their idols, breaking into pieces the stone pillars they use in worship.25 If you worship the Lord your God, I will bless your bread and your water. I will take away sickness from you.26 None of your women will have her baby die before it is born, and all women will have children. I will allow you to live long lives.

27 "I will make your enemies afraid of me. I will confuse any people you fight against, and I will make all your enemies run away from you.28 I will send terror ahead of you that will force the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites out of your way.29 But I will not force all those people out in only one year. If I did, the land would become a desert and the wild animals would become too many for you.30 Instead, I will force those people out slowly, until there are enough of you to take over the land.

31 "I will give you the land from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give you power over the people who now live in the land, and you will force them out ahead of you.32 You must not make an agreement with those people or with their gods.33 You must not let them live in your land, or they will make you sin against me. If you worship their gods, you will be caught in a trap."

Getting Started: Six First steps to a new beginning

Getting Started: Six First steps to a new beginning
(from newlyweds to empty-nesters)

So what is the issue in your marriage you'd like to address? Our first inclination is usually to find fault with our spouse, but you'll have much more success tending to your own shortcomings first. Those are the issues you have direct control over. So why not take a personal inventory of your own imperfections and ask God to forgive you for those sins. Now, you're ready to take these six steps to improving your marriage.

  1. Having confessed your failures and accepted God’s forgiveness, ask your partner to forgive you. Then ask God to let you be His agent for loving your partner. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit and His love.
  2. Forget about your feelings. You do not have to feel anything to love your spouse. Feelings may change because of your actions, but
feelings should not dictate your actions. Choose to love your mate,
    no matter how you feel.
  3. Express love to your mate by word or action once each day for the next month. Perhaps you could begin with a compliment each day for the next week.
  4. Do not allow your mate’s reaction to stifle your love. Nothing your mate does can stop your love as long as you choose to love. Why stop when love is your greatest weapon for good and growth?
  5. Consider the possibility of accepting in your mate some imperfection that has irritated you for years. If you decide to accept it, be sure to tell your mate. Such acceptance can be a positive step in your own emotional growth.
  6. Few individuals can resist genuine, unconditional love for more than
a year. Why not start today? Make this the greatest year of your marriage. Many have found that in less than a month, love has begotten love, and their whole marriage has been turned around.

Daily Word

Jeremiah 18 (New Century Version)

Jeremiah 18

The Potter and the Clay
1 This is the word the Lord spoke to Jeremiah:2 "Go down to the potter's house, and I will give you my message there."3 So I went down to the potter's house and saw him working at the potter's wheel.4 He was using his hands to make a pot from clay, but something went wrong with it. So he used that clay to make another pot the way he wanted it to be.

5 Then the Lord spoke his word to me:6 "Family of Israel, can't I do the same thing with you?" says the Lord. "You are in my hands like the clay in the potter's hands.7 There may come a time when I will speak about a nation or a kingdom that I will pull up by its roots or that I will pull down to destroy it.8 But if the people of that nation stop doing the evil they have done, I will change my mind and not carry out my plans to bring disaster to them.9 There may come another time when I will speak about a nation that I will build up and plant.10 But if I see it doing evil by not obeying me, I will change my mind and not carry out my plans to do good for them.

11 "So, say this to the people of Judah and those who live in Jerusalem: 'This is what the Lord says: I am preparing disaster for you and making plans against you. So stop doing evil. Change your ways and do what is right.'12 But the people of Judah will answer, 'It won't do any good to try! We will continue to do what we want. Each of us will do what his stubborn, evil heart wants!' "

13 So this is what the Lord says:
"Ask the people in other nations this question:
'Have you ever heard anything like this?'
The people of Israel have done a horrible thing.
14 The snow on the mountains of Lebanon
never melts from the rocks.
Its cool, flowing streams
do not dry up.
15 But my people have forgotten me.
They burn incense to worthless idols
and have stumbled in what they do
and in the old ways of their ancestors.
They walk along back roads
and on poor highways.
16 So Judah's country will become an empty desert.
People will not stop making fun of it.
They will shake their heads as they pass by;
they will be shocked at how the country was destroyed.
17 Like a strong east wind,
I will scatter them before their enemies.
At that awful time they will not see me coming to help them;
they will see me leaving."

Jeremiah's Fourth Complaint
18 Then the people said, "Come, let's make plans against Jeremiah. Surely the teaching of the law by the priest will not be lost. We will still have the advice from the wise teachers and the words of the prophets. So let's ruin him by telling lies about him. We won't pay attention to anything he says."
19 Lord, listen to me.
Listen to what my accusers are saying!
20 Good should not be paid back with evil,
but they have dug a pit in order to kill me.
Remember that I stood before you
and asked you to do good things for these people
and to turn your anger away from them.
21 So now, let their children starve,
and let their enemies kill them with swords.
Let their wives lose their children and husbands.
Let the men from Judah be put to death
and the young men be killed with swords in battle.
22 Let them cry out in their houses
when you bring an enemy against them suddenly.
Let all this happen, because my enemies have dug
a pit to capture me and have hidden traps for my feet.
23 Lord, you know
about all their plans to kill me.
Don't forgive their crimes
or erase their sins from your mind.
Make them fall from their places;
punish them while you are angry.

Questions for further thoughts and Prayer. Things that make you go hmmmmm!

Questions for further thought:
  • What type of sorrow have you been showing toward the sin in your life?
What type of death was Paul referring to concerning worldly sorrow in verse 10?
  • 1 Peter 2:24 says that Jesus died so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. What does it mean to die to sin?
  • What happens to our “old self” desires that were dead in Christ when we fall back into sin? (Ephesians 4:21-23)

Prayer:

“Dear God, I confess that I have been holding on to this sin in my heart. Specifically, I have _____________(list your sin). Lord I confess that I still hold secret pleasure in these sins. I now release these thoughts and memories to you, Lord and ask that you cleanse my conscience of them with the blood of Jesus. Please create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me that will follow your ways. Please unite my heart to fear you and follow you. Please help me to see my sin as you see it and abhor it as you abhor it. Please refill me with the Holy Spirit and renew my sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s convictions concerning my sin. Thank you, Father! I receive the new life in Christ and the power I need to put these sinful desires to death! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

Godly Sorrow vs. Worldly Sorrow

2 Corinthians 7 (New Century Version)

2 Corinthians 7
1 Dear friends, we have these promises from God, so we should make ourselves pure—free from anything that makes body or soul unclean. We should try to become holy in the way we live, because we respect God.
Paul's Joy
2 Open your hearts to us. We have not done wrong to anyone, we have not ruined the faith of anyone, and we have not cheated anyone.3 I do not say this to blame you. I told you before that we love you so much we would live or die with you.4 I feel very sure of you and am very proud of you. You give me much comfort, and in all of our troubles I have great joy.

5 When we came into Macedonia, we had no rest. We found trouble all around us. We had fighting on the outside and fear on the inside.6 But God, who comforts those who are troubled, comforted us when Titus came.7 We were comforted, not only by his coming but also by the comfort you gave him. Titus told us about your wish to see me and that you are very sorry for what you did. He also told me about your great care for me, and when I heard this, I was much happier.

8 Even if my letter made you sad, I am not sorry I wrote it. At first I was sorry, because it made you sad, but you were sad only for a short time.9 Now I am happy, not because you were made sad, but because your sorrow made you change your lives. You became sad in the way God wanted you to, so you were not hurt by us in any way.10 The kind of sorrow God wants makes people change their hearts and lives. This leads to salvation, and you cannot be sorry for that. But the kind of sorrow the world has brings death. 11 See what this sorrow—the sorrow God wanted you to have—has done to you: It has made you very serious. It made you want to restore yourselves. It made you angry and afraid. It made you want to see me. It made you care. It made you want to do the right thing. In every way you have regained your innocence. 12 I wrote that letter, not because of the one who did the wrong or because of the person who was hurt. I wrote the letter so you could see, before God, the great care you have for us.13 That is why we were comforted.

Not only were we very comforted, we were even happier to see that Titus was so happy. All of you made him feel much better.14 I bragged to Titus about you, and you showed that I was right. Everything we said to you was true, and you have proved that what we bragged about to Titus is true.15 And his love for you is stronger when he remembers that you were all ready to obey. You welcomed him with respect and fear.16 I am very happy that I can trust you fully.

Daily Word

Acts 3
Peter Heals a Crippled Man

1 One day Peter and John went to the Temple at three o'clock, the time set each day for the afternoon prayer service.2 There, at the Temple gate called Beautiful Gate, was a man who had been crippled all his life. Every day he was carried to this gate to beg for money from the people going into the Temple.3 The man saw Peter and John going into the Temple and asked them for money.4 Peter and John looked straight at him and said, "Look at us!"5 The man looked at them, thinking they were going to give him some money.6 But Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold, but I do have something else I can give you. By the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, stand up and walk!"7 Then Peter took the man's right hand and lifted him up. Immediately the man's feet and ankles became strong.8 He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk. He went into the Temple with them, walking and jumping and praising God.9-10 All the people recognized him as the crippled man who always sat by the Beautiful Gate begging for money. Now they saw this same man walking and praising God, and they were amazed. They wondered how this could happen.
Peter Speaks to the People
11 While the man was holding on to Peter and John, all the people were amazed and ran to them at Solomon's Porch.12 When Peter saw this, he said to them, "People of Israel, why are you surprised? You are looking at us as if it were our own power or goodness that made this man walk.13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, gave glory to Jesus, his servant. But you handed him over to be killed. Pilate decided to let him go free, but you told Pilate you did not want Jesus.14 You did not want the One who is holy and good but asked Pilate to give you a murderera]">[a] instead.15 And so you killed the One who gives life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses to this.16 It was faith in Jesus that made this crippled man well. You can see this man, and you know him. He was made completely well because of trust in Jesus, and you all saw it happen!

17 "Brothers and sisters, I know you did those things to Jesus because neither you nor your leaders understood what you were doing.18 God said through the prophets that his Christ would suffer and die. And now God has made these things come true in this way.19 So you must change your hearts and lives! Come back to God, and he will forgive your sins. Then the Lord will send the time of rest.20 And he will send Jesus, the One he chose to be the Christ.21 But Jesus must stay in heaven until the time comes when all things will be made right again. God told about this time long ago when he spoke through his holy prophets.22 Moses said, 'The Lord your God will give you a prophet like me, who is one of your own people. You must listen to everything he tells you.23 Anyone who does not listen to that prophet will die, cut off from God's people.'b]">[b]24 Samuel, and all the other prophets who spoke for God after Samuel, told about this time now.25 You are descendants of the prophets. You have received the agreement God made with your ancestors. He said to your father Abraham, 'Through your descendants all the nations on the earth will be blessed.'c]">[c]26 God has raised up his servant Jesus and sent him to you first to bless you by turning each of you away from doing evil."

From Lady Lilly...........

Dear WOW Gospel Ministries

I feel this ministry is a big blessing for those out their who are struggling with their personal life. I feel when a group of people get together to speak the words of God to those who seem hard to get to church. The word of God is setting people free of captivity in their daily life; it has helped me to grow spiritually. This Radio program has opened a hunger for more knowledge of his word. It also build a strength to continue my journey severing my savior with courage knowing that after the battle the victory will be mine with God by my side. I encourage those who are struggling to grab the words of God for there strength and victory for their own family as well for themselves.

Love Lady Lilly, Far Rockaway New York City

Daily Scripture

Philippians 2

1 Does your life in Christ give you strength? Does his love comfort you? Do we share together in the spirit? Do you have mercy and kindness?2 If so, make me very happy by having the same thoughts, sharing the same love, and having one mind and purpose.3 When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves.4 Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.
Be Unselfish Like Christ
5 In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.
6 Christ himself was like God in everything.
But he did not think that being equal with God was something to be used for his own benefit.
7 But he gave up his place with God and made himself nothing.
He was born as a man
and became like a servant.
8 And when he was living as a man,
he humbled himself and was fully obedient to God,
even when that caused his death—death on a cross.
9 So God raised him to the highest place.
God made his name greater than every other name
10 so that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus—
everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.
11 And everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
and bring glory to God the Father.
Be the People God Wants You to Be
12 My dear friends, you have always obeyed God when I was with you. It is even more important that you obey now while I am away from you. Keep on working to complete your salvation with fear and trembling,13 because God is working in you to help you want to do and be able to do what pleases him.

14 Do everything without complaining or arguing.15 Then you will be innocent and without any wrong. You will be God's children without fault. But you are living with crooked and mean people all around you, among whom you shine like stars in the dark world.16 You offer the teaching that gives life. So when Christ comes again, I can be happy because my work was not wasted. I ran the race and won.

17 Your faith makes you offer your lives as a sacrifice in serving God. If I have to offer my own blood with your sacrifice, I will be happy and full of joy with all of you.18 You also should be happy and full of joy with me.

Timothy and Epaphroditus
19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon. I will be happy to learn how you are.20 I have no one else like Timothy, who truly cares for you.21 Other people are interested only in their own lives, not in the work of Jesus Christ.22 You know the kind of person Timothy is. You know he has served with me in telling the Good News, as a son serves his father.23 I plan to send him to you quickly when I know what will happen to me.24 I am sure that the Lord will help me to come to you soon.

25 Epaphroditus, my brother in Christ, works and serves with me in the army of Christ. When I needed help, you sent him to me. I think now that I must send him back to you,26 because he wants very much to see all of you. He is worried because you heard that he was sick.27 Yes, he was sick, and nearly died, but God had mercy on him and me too so that I would not have more sadness.28 I want very much to send him to you so that when you see him you can be happy, and I can stop worrying about you.29 Welcome him in the Lord with much joy. Give honor to people like him,30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to give me the help you could not give in your service to me.
